Early one Friday morning, Ron and I started out for our final day of building in Mogote with a team from New Jersey.  Consuelo was the recipient of this 12’ x 16’ house.  She has six children and one nephew living with her.  Until today, they shared the house we built for her friend, Doris, and her six children.  That’s right . . . 15 people in one small house!

I was talking with Consuelo about where she was going to place her bed when everything was finished.  She ducked her head and quietly said “I don’t have a bed.”  Of course, my heart sank as I realized she would be sleeping on the cement floor that night.  I had just given away the last bed we had in storage and my heart grieved for them.

This is not an isolated story.  The thought of not having a bed to sleep in is so far removed from us.  I remembered when we were living in the United States, making lots of money, and never realizing that the very cups of coffee that we bought at Starbucks every day would have paid for those beds!  What an eye opening experience.
